We have all read the headlines: Church attendance is shrinking and Christians are losing their faith. What those headlines often don’t reveal is which churches are in decline and why.

Now, a recent study has shed some new light on the difference between the churches that have seen their membership drop and those that have seen incredible growth in recent years.

The short version: churches that preach a literal interpretation of God’s word to an enthusiastic congregation continue to expand. On the other hand, the mainline protestant churches that have progressively diluted or reinterpreted God’s word have suffered losses of membership.

Previous studies had downplayed the role of theology in declining church membership, but new research conducted with 2,225 churchgoers in Ontario, Canada disputes those findings.

The study included 29 interviews with clergy and 195 interviews with members of church congregations as well and both theology and active church participation stand out as the key factors of a church’s status.

More specifically, those churches that interpret the Bible literally and maintain a focus on evangelism are thriving. The paper will be published in the upcoming issue of the academic journal Review of Religious Research.

David Haskell, the lead researcher, stated that “if we are talking solely about what believe system is more likely to lead to numerical growth among Protestant churches, the evidence suggests conservative Protestant theology is the clear winner.”

He went on to emphasize that the growing churches in the study “held more firmly to the traditional beliefs of Christianity and were more diligent in things like prayer and Bible reading.” Age of the congregation was an ancillary growth factor as well as the less

traditional use of drums and other less-traditional musical instruments in worship services.

The most powerful factor, however, was the belief system. Haskell’s research into social groups indicates, not surprisingly, that churches with a consistent, unified message and clear boundaries between outsiders are more attractive to people both in the church and outside.

The certainty of faith is, in other words, a powerful tool to call new believers to Christ. Among the other findings of the study are these key differences on questions of belief:

* The statement “it is very important to encourage non-Christians to become Christians” was affirmed by 50% of the members of declining churches and 100% of the members of growing churches

* The belief that “Jesus rose from the dead with a real flesh-and-blood body leaving behind an empty tomb” is held by 93% of clergy and 83% of members of growing churches but only 56% of clergy and 67% of members from declining churches.

* A belief in miracles and that God answers prayers is held by 100% of clergy and 90% of believers in growing churches while churches in decline only report that 80% of clergy and 44% of worshippers hold this belief.

* Daily Bible reading is practiced by 71% of the clergy in growing churches and 19% in declining churches

* Weekly Bible reading is practiced by 46% of the members of growing churches and 26% in declining churches

Clearly, conservative theology and values are winning hearts to Christ as their church attendance grows along with their faith.

Meanwhile, liberal mainline churches continue to decline, losing membership as they have drifted away from God’s clear message of salvation.

Magog Alliance Rising – Turkey Shifts To Russian Alliance

Turkey’s half-century old EU membership bid is currently tottering on the brink of collapse, after the European Union’s legislature asked the bloc to freeze membership negotiations with Turkey over the government’s heavy-handed crackdown following a failed coup in July.

In response, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to open Turkey’s borders to allow migrants to reach the EU, a move that would tear up the landmark deal that has reduced the flow significantly.

Last year the continent experienced its worst refugee crisis since World War II, with more than a million people fleeing war and poverty to land on Europe’s shores mostly via Turkey.

In a bid to stem the flow, Brussels and Ankara agreed to a $6.4 billion deal in which Turkey would take back migrants in exchange for money, visa-free travel and the opening of new chapters.

According to Weston Williams in a report compiled for the scmonitor.com, Turkish president Erdoan indicated in a recent interview that he was fed up with waiting for the European Union to accept Turkey as a member state, indicating that he would be willing to consider joining the Russia-led Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as an alternative to the Western bloc.

After more than a decade of negotiations, the president said that there was no reason to sentence Turkey to even more years of diplomatic wrangling just to become part of an international organization that has been consistently slow in welcoming Ankara into its ranks.

After the EU officially formed, Turkey applied for full membership of that organization in 2005, and has remained in negotiations ever since.

“Turkey must feel at ease,” said Erdoan in the interview with Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. “It mustn’t say ‘for me it’s the European Union at all costs.’ That’s my view….Some may criticize me but I express my opinion,” said Erdoan. “For example, I have said ‘why shouldn’t Turkey be in the Shanghai Five?'”

The Shanghai Five is the old name for the SCO, which consisted of 5 members until Uzbekistan joined the political/economic/military pact. The five-country treaty was signed in 1996, largely thanks to Russia and China.

Could such a move actually materialize, perhaps triggered by a final fallout between the EU and Turkey over a spate of irreconcilable differences? If so, what would its significance be, if any, in the larger scheme of things?

Ricky Scaparo took a look at the Bible prophecy angle shortly after the attempted coup in July with an examination of what Turkey’s role is and why it matters.

2,600 years ago, the prophet Ezekiel foretold of a time when a coalition of predominately Muslim Nations would gather together to invade the nation of Israel. This well-known conflict is known as “The War of Gog and Magog.”

According to the book of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39, this confederacy of nations will attack Israel during a relatively peaceful period that appears to be generated by a recent conflict resulting in a “state of peace” for the Jewish nation.

According to the prophet, “After many days you shall be called. In the latter years, you shall come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered out of many peoples, against the mountains of Israel which had been always a waste. But its people were brought out of the nations, and they, all of them, are dwelling safely … and you shall say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls and having neither bars nor gates'” (Ezekiel 38:8, 11, MEV).

The nations cited by Ezekiel are each referenced in the Old Testament, yet they all represent nations which exist today. Long before Russia became a major world power, most Biblical scholars identified Magog as the nation of Russia and Gog as the ruler of Russia. These other nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38 are:

” Magog (also said by other experts to include Meshech, and Tubal)  = Russia

” Persia = Iran

” Cush = Ethiopia

” Put = Libya

” Gomer = Turkey (Some have identified as eastern Europe)

” Beth-Togarmah = Turkey (also said by other experts to include Armenia, and the Turkish-speaking people of Asia Minor).

The Bible indicates that in the “latter days” the Lord will put a “hook in the jaw” of these nations listed, including the nation of Turkey and, according to the prophet, “you shall ascend and come like a storm; you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.” (Ezekiel 38:9)

So Turkey will be significant in the near future in the context of Biblical prophecy. She will unite with several other nations and attempt to destroy the nation of Israel but will ultimately fail. So just what will befall these nations in that war?

Israel will not need to rely on America, Britain or any of her allies to defend her because God Himself will step into the scene spectacularly and overcome Israel’s enemies through a mixture of several strategies: civil wars, pestilences, overflowing rain and hailstones, fire and brimstone (Ezekiel 38: 18-23).

There are other perspectives of how the Biblical prophecies could yet pan out with regard to Turkey. Britt Gillette for WND.com reported the views of Joel Richardson, New York Times bestselling author of “The Islamic Antichrist” and the director of the new teaching series “The Coming Battle for Jerusalem.”

Richardson argued in July that the failed coup in Turkey would empower Islamism within the once secular country, leading to massive global consequences.

“Whether we are speaking of the role of the nations in last days Biblical prophecy, or merely examining current Middle East geopolitics from a secular analysis, understanding what is presently unfolding in Turkey is absolutely critical,” Richardson told WND.

“For the past 20 years, American foreign policy has looked to Turkey as the model for what we would like to replicate throughout the region. Turkey, it was thought, was a model of success of a moderate Muslim nation.”

As Richardson observed, the Turkish Republic was conceived by its founder as a deliberate counter-example to the problem of radical Islam. The military was specifically designated as the guardian of the Republic’s secular basis.

Richardson suggests this process, though initially successful has finally broken down through a systematic but subtle and gradual takeover of Islamists. Their vehicle of choice was using the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which Erdoan also used to crush dissent ruthlessly.

“When government protests broke out in Turkey in 2013, Erdoan led the charge to respond violently,” Richardson recalled. He further condemned reports which portrayed the defeat of the coup as a triumph for “democracy.” He observed AKP supporters did not chant slogans in support of freedom or liberty, but instead called “Allahu Akbar!”

“It is important to note that just ten years ago, shouts of the Arabic phrase ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Turkey, even among more Islamist Turks, would be extremely rare,” said Richardson. “Turks pride themselves in being above the barbaric and uncultured Arabs. No more. The popularity of overtly Islamist sentiment should be deeply troubling to the whole world.”

Richardson argues that (Christian) believers should be deeply concerned over these developments because there is an important prophetic significance to the rise of Islamist sentiment in what was once the Eastern Roman Empire.

“What is also fascinating to note is that within Islamic eschatology, there is a prophecy that says that Constantinople, (now called Istanbul) would be conquered by the Mahdi, not through military action, but simply through shouts of, ‘Takbir’ (Allahu Akbar),” Richardson told WND.

“Surely for the increasingly apocalyptically minded Muslim world, this prophecy may be seen as having been fulfilled in our midst….Turkey has fallen to the Islamists. Erdoan is one step closer to his goal of becoming the Caliph of the Muslim world.”

Being passionately anti-Israel would certainly help him achieve that goal. Britt Gillette, founder of End Times Bible Prophecy cites a Jerusalem Post article quoting Erdoan stating that Israel should be barred from the United Nations: “How is such a country, which does not implement resolutions of the UN Security Council, allowed to enter through the gates of the UN (headquarters)?”

As Gillette also noted: “Yet today’s headlines indicate a marked increase in friction between the nation of Turkey and its supposed ally Israel. As Islamic radicalism has enjoyed political success in recent years, Turkey is becoming more and more anti-Western in its foreign policy.  And its hardline Islamic leadership’s shared disdain for Israel may well be the deciding factor which drives it into the arms of the Gog/Magog alliance”.

But doesn’t Turkey’s position in the NATO Alliance count for anything? Previously perhaps, but hardly anymore. According to David Romano for rudaw.net, Turkey’s NATO membership also increasingly makes a mockery of the alliance’s charter and places significant liabilities on the shoulders of other members.

Romano further pessimistically notes that today, in contrast, it seems increasingly clear that President Erdoan will never relinquish power. His purges and complete subversion of democratic institutions and individual liberties may take decades to repair, if ever.

Just the temperament needed for a ruler with enough dictatorial inclinations to potentially lead Turkey into rebellion against NATO and into the waiting arms of a Russian and/or Chinese-led military alliance.

Romano notes that the NATO charter lacks any provisions for expelling members, however, and such a public break is probably not in any member’s interest. The better approach would be to disband NATO and put together something new.

American policy makers will protest that Washington can’t afford to lose Turkey. This ignores the fact that they have already lost the Turks to Mr. Erdoan and his ilk – they just haven’t officially left yet.

Preparing For Wormwood – NASA Launches Planetary Protection Exercise

What was previously the stuff of Hollywood movies is seemingly moving from the safety of science fiction to the realm of harsh, possible reality.

NASA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other government agencies engaged last month in a planetary protection exercise to consider the potentially devastating consequences of a 330-foot asteroid hitting the Earth.

The exercise projected a worst-case blast wave by an asteroid strike in 2020 that could level structures within a radius of 30 miles, require a mass evacuation of the Los Angeles area and cause tens of thousands of casualties.

Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, says the center relies on several telescopes, such as the Catalina Sky Survey at the University of Arizona, to track potentially hazardous asteroids and comets.

The center lists 659 asteroids that have some probability of striking the planet, “but none pose a significant threat over the next century, either because the probabilities are extraordinarily small, or the asteroids themselves are extremely small… nevertheless, we must continue searching for asteroids in case there is one that is heading our way,” Mr. Chodas said.

There’s also another reason why the haunting ‘asteroid attack’ prospect is something not to be shrugged off as too remote to be of concern: It’s already happened several times.

Asteroid Day is observed each year on June 30, the anniversary of what is believed to be the largest space-related explosion in human history: an asteroid strike in Tunguska, Siberia, in 1908.

An asteroid, believed to be less than 100 feet in diameter, exploded at the altitude of an airliner and flattened tens of millions of trees across 800 square miles.

Researchers estimated the explosion was as powerful as a medium-size hydrogen bomb and several hundred times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Although there were no official reports of human casualties, hundreds of reindeer were reduced to charred carcases in the explosion, the British Broadcasting Corporation reported.

In more recent times, an asteroid exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk in 2013, shattering windows for miles and injuring more than 1,000 people.

Scientists have suggested that the Earth is vulnerable to many more Chelyabinsk-size space rocks. In research published in 2013 by the journal Nature, they estimated that such

strikes could occur as often as every decade or two instead of an average of once every 100 to 200 years as previously thought.

And the frequency possibilities are even scarier if the latest simulation is any indication. As Sarah Lewin recently wrote for the Fox News, the probability of a 2020 impact was initially only 2 percent.

However, as the group continued to simulate tracking it over time and the fictional months went by, the impact probability rose to 65 percent — and then 100 percent, in May 2017.

By November of that year, in the scenario, they found that it would hit across Southern California or nearby in the Pacific Ocean.

Is it also possible that an eventual asteroid strike on Planet Earth is also predicted in the Bible?

Some observers of the scriptures believe that Revelation Chapter 8:10 – 11 gives an indication of this. 10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Could it be that the “great star” named Wormwood is an asteroid that would poison the natural waters – rivers and fountains of the earth?

Gotquestions.com goes into some detail regarding the meaning of Wormwood in the Book of Revelation.

The seven trumpets are the judgments of the seventh seal (Revelation 8:1-5). The first trumpet causes hail and fire that destroy much of the plant life in the world (Revelation 8:7). The second trumpet brings about what seems to be a meteor, comet, or other heavenly body hitting the oceans and causing the death of one-third of the world’s sea life (Revelation 8:8-9).

The third trumpet is similar to the second, except it affects the world’s lakes and rivers instead of the oceans (Revelation 8:10-11). It will cause a third part of all fresh water on earth to turn bitter and many people will die from drinking it.

The word “wormwood” is mentioned only here in the New Testament, but it appears eight times in the Old Testament, each time associated with bitterness, poison and death.

How Donald Trump Moving The U.S. Embassy From Tel Aviv To Jerusalem Could Trigger The Psalm 83 War

God is concerned with His nation of Israel and with His chosen people, the Jews. In the third chapter of Joel, we read that God wages the Battle of Armageddon because people have divided up Israel, a place that He calls “my land”.

In the third chapter of Joel, we read that God wages the Battle of Armageddon because people have divided up Israel, a place that He calls “my land”

“They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” Psalm 83:4 (KJV)

One of Donald Trump’s main campaign promises is that he would move the U.S. Embassy from its currents location in Tel Aviv, Israel, to the Old City Israeli capital of Jerusalem. See for yourself how the massive AIPAC audience erupted in frenzied cheers when he said it:

Most people, unsaved people, honestly probably didn’t even bat an eye when he said as most people don’t really care about what happens in tiny, little Israel. But to the Bible believing Christian, those words rang out with a clarion call that something really big just appeared on the end times prophecy radar. Back on October 28, 2016, the headline over on jpost.com was “Ivanka Trump Says Her Father Will Move US Embassy To Jerusalem ‘100%’ If Elected“.

I truly hope that President Trump will make America great again, I really do. But if you think for one moment that that’s why God allowed him to be elected you are deceiving yourself. God is not concerned so much with America, He really isn’t. God is concerned with His nation of Israel and with His chosen people, the Jews. In the third chapter of Joel, we read that God wages the Battle of Armageddon because people have divided up Israel, a place that He calls “my land”. Read it for yourself:

“I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.” Joel 3:2 (KJV)

The reason why the Palestinian continue to reject the Two State Solution

Multiple times a “two state solution” has been offered to the Palestinian people, and every time it is offered they reject it. Why? Because in the Two State Solution, Jerusalem stays with Israel as it rightly should and infuriates the Palestinians. When Lucifer fell in Isaiah 14, it was because he was no longer satisfied with the good things that God had given him, he wanted it all. Lucifer wanted to sit in God’s Seat and replace God:

“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Isaiah 14:13-15 (KJV)

Now that you know that, can you see why there is coming such a fierce battle over Jerusalem? Because Jerusalem is God’s Holy Place, the Bible calls it the “city of the great King”. Why? Because it will be to Jerusalem that Jesus will return to as King of Kings and will rule with a “rod of iron” over the nations. That’s why. The coming battles that will take place there will be fought through humans, but it is actually a battle between God and the Devil. So now let’s take a look at Psalm 83, there is a war mentioned there connected with the time of Jacob’s trouble.

“For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.” Psalm 83:5-8 (KJV)

Look at all the nations that surround Israel to attack her, what do they all have in common? They are Muslim nations! Look at a Google map of Israel and you will see that in 2016 Israel is 100% surrounded by 100% Muslim nations. See the word Selah at the end of verse 8? That little clue tells us that the Psalm 83 War is connected with the time of Jacob’s trouble. (please read our article entitled “THE REAL MEANING OF THE WORD SELAH IN THE BIBLE” for further insight on this issue.)

THE BIBLE BELIEVERS GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE RAPTURE AND THE SECOND COMING

When Donald Trump moves the Embassy to Jerusalem, thus declaring that the United States recognizes it as Israel’s capital, the entire Arab world will go crazy. We believe it is not only possible but probable that this will trigger, at some point, the Psalm 83 War. But if we are that close to that, we are even this much closer to this:

The Rapture of the Church must come first

What part of the time of Jacob’s trouble will the Church be involved in? None of it. Why? Because it is the time of (write this on the chalkboard 100 times) Jacob’s trouble. It has nothing to do with the church. Putting the Church of Jesus Christ into the time of Jacob’s trouble – Israel’s trouble – is nothing more than bad, old-fashioned replacement theology. If that offends you because you put the Church in Matthew 24 where it doesn’t belong, then guess what? Be offended. Because stealing any of Israel’s promises, including the negative ones, is replacement theology.

If we are really this close to the time of Jacob’s trouble and the Psalm 83 War, then we are really, really close to the time of the Pretribulation Rapture of the Church. A sobering thought, isn’t it? Donald Trump’s miracle win was really just that – a miracle. But it was a miracle with a purpose, to accomplish God’s will and plan in these end times. We have been saying this to anyone who will listen for well over a year now.

Have you ever stopped to consider the physical structure of the word ‘Jerusalem’? Take a closer look – JerUSAlem. Now what do you see?

For the Bible believer and prophecy watcher, we are most certainly living in exciting times. Perhaps the most exciting since May 14, 1948.

Are YOU ready for what comes next?

Mere minutes after posting this article, the UK Daily Mail published this:

The two-time White House hopeful, former Fox New Channel weekend host and former governor of Arkansas will be America’s next ambassador to Israel, a presidential transition official confirmed to DailyMail.com on Friday. He is scheduled to meet with President-Elect Donald Trump Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Huckabee, an ordained Baptist preacher and electric bass player, will become the tip of Trump’s spear as he seeks to shake up U.S. foreign relations in the Middle East, beginning with relocating America’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

‘That’s going to happen,’ the transition official said. ‘Governor Huckabee is going to see it through.’ source
