IS MUHAMMAD THE PROPHET LIKE MOSES IN DEUTERONOMY 18:18?

 A REPLY TO ZAKIR NAIK

The “ONE” verse from the book of Deuteronomy which Zakir Naik quoted “out of context”, by right, should be started with verses 16 and 17 as follows:

[Deuteronomy 18:16-17]  According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, LET ME NOT HEAR AGAIN THE VOICE OF THE LORD MY GOD, NEITHER LET ME SEE THIS GREAT FIRE ANY MORE, THAT I DIE NOT. [17] And the LORD said unto me, THEY HAVE WELL SPOKEN THAT WHICH THEY HAVE SPOKEN.

This happened at the time when the LORD our God gave to Moses the two tablets containing the Ten Commandments, written by His own finger:

[Exodus 20:18-21]  And all the people saw the thundering, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. [19]  And they said unto Moses, SPEAK THOU WITH US, AND WE WILL HEAR: BUT LET NOT GOD SPEAK WITH US, LEST WE DIE. [20]  And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. [21]  And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

Thus, in the following verse, Moses told the Jews what God told him concerning another prophet of Moses’ calibre and more, to be raised from among their brethren (Jews), not from any other nation, such as Arabs which Mohammed belonged to:

[Deuteronomy 18:18]  I WILL RAISE THEM UP A PROPHET FROM AMONG THEIR BRETHREN, LIKE UNTO THEE, AND WILL PUT MY WORDS IN HIS MOUTH; AND HE SHALL SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I SHALL COMMAND HIM.

Now, how can we be so certain that thousands of years before hand that God was promising the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Apostle Peter explained that very clearly:

[Act 3:18-23]  But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. [19]  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; [20]  AND HE SHALL SEND JESUS CHRIST, WHICH BEFORE WAS PREACHED UNTO YOU: [21]  WHOM THE HEAVEN MUST RECEIVE UNTIL THE TIMES OF RESTITUTION OF ALL THINGS, WHICH GOD HATH SPOKEN BY THE MOUTH OF ALL HIS HOLY PROPHETS SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN. [22]  FOR MOSES TRULY SAID UNTO THE FATHERS, A PROPHET SHALL THE LORD YOUR GOD RAISE UP UNTO YOU OF YOUR BRETHREN, LIKE UNTO ME; HIM SHALL YE HEAR IN ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER HE SHALL SAY UNTO YOU. [23]  And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

How can Zakir Naik “shamelessly” said that Moses was referring to Mohammed? Before the incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ, the bible attest:

[Deuteronomy 34:9-10]  And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses. [10]  AND THERE AROSE NOT A PROPHET SINCE IN ISRAEL LIKE UNTO MOSES, WHOM THE LORD KNEW FACE TO FACE,

In term of miracles, Moses and the Lord Jesus Christ performed many; the Lord Jesus Christ even rose Lazarus from death!

Let us quote what Mohammed’s followers said concerning miracle (signs) LIKE MOSES:

Al Qasas [Chapter 28]:

47: And thou was not at the side of the Mount when We called. But We have sent thee as a mercy from thy Lord, that thou mayest warn a people to whom no Warner had come before thee, that they may reflect.

48: And why do they not, when an affliction befalls them as a result of their own doings, say, ‘Our Lord, why did you not send your Messenger to us so that we could follow Your Signs, and be of those who believed?’

49: But when truth came to them from Us, they said, ‘Why has he not been given the like of what was given to Moses?‘ Had they not rejected what was given to Moses before they said, Merely two magicians helping each other.’ And they said, ‘We reject them

So this “purported” Messenger or Warner, was rejected because he failed to show signs (miracles) like those given to Moses!

Quran Chapter 5 (Al Ma’idah) verse 19: The Jews and the Christians say, ‘We are sons of Allah and His loved ones.’ Say, ‘Why then does He punish you for your sins? Nay, you are only human beings among those He had created.’ He forgives whom He pleases and punishes whom He pleases. And to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and to Him shall be the return.

JEWS ARE SPECIAL PEOPLE; in [Deuteronomy] 14:1 the bible says:  Ye are the children of the LORD your God…32:6  Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? IS NOT HE THY FATHER THAT HATH BOUGHT THEE? HATH HE NOT MADE THEE, and established thee?… 8  When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel…18  Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten GOD THAT FORMED THEE.

They are called God’s children not in the literal sense but spiritual! Islam is so carnal and sensual in deeds and thoughts.

According to Zakir Naik, Muhammad was prophesied in Deuteronomy 18:18, where God said that He would send another prophet like Moses. However, a careful examination of the text shows not only that Muhammad isn’t the prophet referred to in Deuteronomy 18, but also that Muhammad can’t be a prophet at all!

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. [Isaiah 45:22-23]

The following verses of scripture are referenced in the following video presentation which very clearly refuted Zakir Naik’s contention that Moses, in Deuteronomy 18:18, talked about Mohammed. From the very beginning God through His prophets, starting  with  Moses, was building up “historical facts,” of  the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ:

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. [Gen 3:15]

There was only one man born of a woman “without the seed of man,” the MAN  JESUS CHRIST!

God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell IN THE TENTS OF SHEM; and Canaan shall be his servant. [Gen 9:27]

And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. [Gen 22:18]

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. [Gen 17:5-6]

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. [Gen 12:2-3]

And the LORD appeared unto him (Isaac) the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake. [Gen 26:24]

And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee (Jacob/Israel) will I give it, and to thy seed;  And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and IN THY SEED SHALL ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH BE BLESSED. [Gen 28:13-14]

And God said unto him (Jacob/Israel), I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; [Gen 35:11]

And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days…  Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh (Messiah) come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. [Gen 49:1, 8-10]

I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, UNTIL HE COME WHOSE RIGHT IT IS; AND I WILL GIVE IT HIM. [Eze 21:27]

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth…Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city. [Num 24:17, 19]

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. [Deu 18:18-19]

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.  And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,  In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,  And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel. [Deu 34:9 -12]

And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses…For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled {Lev 23:12}.  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; [Act 3:15,22, 18-19]

On this week’s program, we will learn that Moses helps to specify the identity even further to one who would be both human and divine. The Messiah would not only be a king; He would be King of kings and Lord of lords. You’ll find more of the amazing evidence pointing toward Jesus as the Messiah in this program and be strengthened in the information to support your faith in Christ.

How are we going to prove God’s promise to Abraham, “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. [Gen 22:18]”?

Here is the proof:

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [Joh 3:16-18]

He heard a voice call his name and saw a vision of Christ. This was miraculous, because up until then, Kamal was a Muslim.

Think about what you have just watched and heard.

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole…Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. [Act 4:10,12]
